When they face one another this weekend, quarterbacks Matt Ryan and Jameis Winston are both projected to put up big fantasy numbers with favorable matchups against the other's defense. That should have their fantasy owners salivating over the thought of a huge week. Naturally, choosing who to start between the two poses an interesting dilemma, but the answer is easier to find than it appears at first glance.
Winston is the perfect streaming option, based on the fact that he's facing an injury-depleted Falcons secondary. Yet, no matter the format, Ryan is still the right quarterback to start between the two. Just look at Tampa's track record against opposing signal-callers this season.
Giving up numbers like those to Drew Brees and Ben Roethlisberger is one thing, but letting Mitchell Trubisky and Nick Foles completely tear them to shreds? There's a reason the Bucs are 29th in the league in pass defense.
Yes, there's rightful concern surrounding Ryan after he was pulled from Sunday's loss with a foot injury. However, the X-rays on his foot came back negative and he wasn't listed on Atlanta's injury report Wednesday afternoon.
Ryan practicing in full is clearly an encouraging sign for his fantasy owners, making him a QB1 against the Bucs. While Winston is a solid one-week fix for Brees owners, with the Saints on a bye, he just hasn't done enough to convince me that he'll outscore Ryan this week.
