Ekeler: 83 rushes, 430 yards, 1 touchdown, 47 targets, 37 receptions, 376 yards, 3 touchdowns
Jackson: 20 rushes, 127 yards, 1 touchdown, 3 targets, 3 receptions, 38 yards
#Chargers RB performance in Week 13:— Justin Edwards (@Justin_Redwards) December 4, 2018
Justin Jackson - 4.75 yards after contact per attempt, 7.9 yards per attempt
Austin Ekeler - 1.46 YPC/A, 1.6 YPA
As Ekeler has been the primary backup this season, he has the clear advantage in raw stats. But given the situation the Chargers are currently in, that doesn't matter as much as it usually does. Here are their stats from the past two games.
Ekeler: 18 rushes, 56 yards, 1 touchdown, 19 targets, 15 receptions, 90 yards
Jackson: 15 rushes, 120 yards, 1 touchdown, 1 target, 1 reception, 18 yards
Jackson's Week 13 stat line:— Fantasy Life (@MBFantasyLife) December 4, 2018
9 touches for 82 yards and 1 TD
Outsnapped 46-14 by Austin Ekeler on Sunday night, but he outscored Ekeler 15.2-9.3
Past 2 games: 15 carries for 120 yards and a TD. In those two weeks, he has 6 carries that have gained at least 10 yards (Ekeler:1) pic.twitter.com/2JANj3xb9H
So Ekeler gets a boost from his contributions in the passing game, but Jackson is better than him running the ball. His contributions on Sunday night in front of a national audience will not go unnoticed and he'll get a large share of the carries if Gordon can't go this week. Jackson just has more upside as Ekeler's best quality is being a check down for Philip Rivers. He has some value in big PPR leagues though.
Either way, it looks like the Chargers are set at running back even if Gordon is out for another game or two.
